New York Life Gallery is pleased to announce Walk-ins, a residency and exhibition of live drawings by New York-based artist Drake Carr. The residency will begin a week prior to the opening and will last a total of two weeks. The show will be open to the public from January 14 – February 9, 2023 and the opening will be held from 12-6 pm on January 14, 2023.
Carr conceived of this residency and show as a means of exploring the spontaneous immediacy and collaborative nature of live drawing sessions. The live drawing arrangement is one that results in an essentially collaborative image- one that can only manifest through the model's own presence- their stylistic choices and sense of glamour- and the artist's interpretation of it.
In Walk-ins, a residency and daily expanding show of artworks, Carr invites his models (a roster comprising artists, friends, models, acquaintances, strangers) to the gallery to pose throughout the twelve day period. The resulting images- sketches, drawings, and paintings- will be installed directly and immediately onto the gallery walls as the residency progresses to document the sessions in real time. The artist will be on site and making drawings periodically throughout the exhibition period while the gallery is open to the public. From January 14-20, the gallery will be open 10 am - 8 pm.
